.The theme behind 4nd st. is that no matter how much people put you down or how little faith they have in you, you should never give up and always give it your best. Peggy Sawyer was a very shy girl from Pennsylvania and people thought she wasn't good just because of how she appeared and where she came from. But when she started singing and dancing with all her heart, she just took everyone's breath away.

In this show the acting was fabulous. I loved every actor in the play, I think each one did a great job. Another great part of the show would have to be the tap numbers. Each tap number was perfect, they all had good melodies and no one was off beat. Another thing that got my attention would have to be the lighting. It made the show just a little better.

The play 4nd street had a happy ending. The show is a smash and Peggy Sawyer is an overnight sensation, a star. Still, it doesnt go to her head. She exits leaving the great Julian Marsh alone on an empty stage. Hes back on top and sings of the glory of Broadway in 4nd street. Near the end of the song, Julian reaches into his pocket and discovers Peggys good luck scarf. When the song ends he starts after Peggy as the curtain falls on the end of the show.

The lesson in the play would have to be that if you work hard and never give up, you will succeed. That's what happened to Peggy. Also the lesson can be that sometimes dreams do come true...

Human beings enjoy laughing. Laughing is referred to as "the best medicine." It is a way of dealing with the stresses of daily life, but more than that, it is a way of relating to fellow mankind. Comedians make a career by being available to keep people laughing. Actors on sitcoms also get paid to entertain an audience. For many, laughing is a natural process. The average adult actually laughs up to seventeen times a day. Many people do not take the time to dwell on it, but laughter is a very complex response. Some of the same skills used in solving problems lead up to the high-pitched noise, known as laughing..

Laughter should not be confused with humor. Laughter is merely the physiological response to something humorous. Laughter is really a two-part process. The first part is a set of gestures, while the second is just the sound produced by the individual. When a person laughs, his or her brain pressures many parts of the body. When a person laughs excessively, changes occur in the arm, leg, and even trunk muscles. When a person laughs, fifteen different facial muscles are contracting. Also, the respiratory system is being disturbed, resulting in a gasping noise. In severe cases, tear ducts are stimulated, making the face turn a reddish purple color..

Many researchers that study laughter have found that laughter follows a pattern in speech. Laughter usually interrupts a person's conversation toward the end of a phrase. This process is said to be governed by the brain, giving the speech the upper hand to the vocalization channel. A behavioral neurobiologist, Robert Provine, suggests that humans have some sort of detector that responds to laughter by triggering other circuits in the brain. This response generates more laughter. That is why laughter appears to be contagious..

Famous philosopher John Morreall says that the first human laughter may have actually been a reaction to danger. Since the relaxation that results from laughing proves to be part of the fight-or-flight response, it shows that laughter may be a sign of trust. Laughter is directly related to making and strengthening human relations. Anthropologist, Mahadev Apte, says, "The more laughter there is, the more bonding occurs within a group."

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Laughing: helping everyone

Other studies show that dominant individuals, such as a boss of a corporation use humor more than their employees. Most of the time whenever the boss laughs, all the employees join in. When a person can control the laughter of a crowd, they are exercising great power over the emotional responses of the group. Provine also feels that laughter must have come into existence as a way to change the behavior and responses of others..Laughter is triggered by something that is humorous to a person. One subject may be humorous to one person; however, a different person may not laugh at all. Traditionally, there are three theories concerning what makes a person laugh. Each theory is different, but each concerns what tickles a person's funny bone..The first theory is the incongruity theory, suggesting that humor arises when things that do not normally go together replace logic and familiarity. Thomas Veatch, a researcher, and thinks a joke becomes funny to an individual when he or she expects a certain outcome, but receives another. When a joke takes an unexpected turn, the individual's thoughts must shift gears. Now that same individual has two different types of thoughts that are incompatible. The person then experiences uneasiness between the different parts of the joke as being amusing.

The second type of theory referring to laughter is the superiority theory. This comes into effect when a person may laugh at a joke that focuses on someone else's embarrassments or stupidity. In this sense, a person may feel superior to another individual which makes him or her experience a sort of separation from the situation, making it much easier to laugh at..

The last type of theory concerning laughter is known as the relief theory. This is the theory the media ties into films and on television. Usually in thrillers or action films, the director uses this sort of comic relief to help the viewer release those built up emotions. Actual stories or news can also build up many emotions within the audience. As a person tries to cope with all of these opposing emotions, humor can be the perfect release. According to Dr. Lisa Rosenberg, humor, can help workers to deal with stressful situations at work. She says," the act of making a joke, gives a person a mental break and increases his or her objectivity in the face of overwhelming stress..Laughter is not only a great way to relief the stresses of everyday living, but it keeps every person rejuvenated. Without laughing, a person would be very unhappy. Laughing keeps the old young, and gives the young a reason to be lively. Laughter is a great benefit of life, no matter how it came about. It helps each person to feel alive and gives us all a reason to build relationships. Laughter may not be the key to a great life, but it is definitely a huge blessing..

Aileen Wuorno. How would life be on death row? Hopefully, I'll never know. Crime is a scary thing, whether it's from stealing something to actually killing someone. Aileen Wuornos was a mentally disturbed woman, that had a bad life as a young child, but now her life has been taken. She was executed October , 00 after being on death row for a few years. She was one of the only women in all of history to have the death penalty in the state of Florida. In the next few paragraphs I'll tell you a little bit about her.Aileen Wuornos as a young child was abandoned by her mother when she was just and infant. Aileen's father was a child molester and a sociopath who committed suicide, also when she was young, somewhere around the age of 1. Aileen lived with her grandparents. A neighbor of Aileen Wuornos, named Annie Smith told people that she recalls her as a nervous child, mistreated by her grandparents. When Aileen was 14, she got pregnant, as the result of rape, and was forced to give up her child. At the age of 15 Aileen was beginning her years of being a prostitute. As one man said She had a rotten childhood. I think that does have something to do with it ... The grandparents were very private people. They wouldnt associate with anyone. She had a miserable life on this earth. People can only do as theyre treated. What this man said is true. You are how you are raised, that's how it is and how it always will be.When Aileen was a prostitute, was when she started her murders. The first man she murdered was a man named Richard Mallory, he worked in an electronics shop in Clearwater, Florida. When Aileen Wuornos was in her trial for the murder of Richard Mallory, she pleaded guilty to five other murders, and a total of killing seven men, one in self-defense. When Aileen was at the Florida Supreme Court so quoted, Im one who seriously hates human life and would kill again, Its scary to think that some people actually think like that. When Aileen was a prostitute, was when she was killing all these men. Many people said, "She was like a spider on the side of the road, waiting for prey men." Before she killed the men, she would have sex with them and take them some where that she knew was a safe place for her to kill, then she would rob them and take everything they had, then she would just kill them after everything she needed to do was done

Cheap University Papers on Aileen Wuornos

Aileen Wuornos at age 46, she was executed by lethal injection in Florida on Wednesday, October th, 00, at 47 a.m. after dropping her appeals, firing the lawyers who argued she was crazy and petitioned the state for an execution as soon as possible. Aileen Wuornos was the 5nd person executed in Florida since their reinstatement of the death penalty. She was the second woman to be executed in Florida. Aileen had her final words right before her execution. She quoted, Id just like to say Im sailing with the Rock and Ill be back like Independence Day with Jesus, June 6, like the movie, big mother ship and all. Ill be back. The Rock is also known as a Biblical reference to Jesus.

In conclusion to all of this I understand, why she was how she was. It's sad that no one stepped in and helped her as a child, because if someone would have she may not have been how she was. When people grow up in environments like hers there's a pretty good chance that you're going have serious problems, unless you get help. She had a horrible life her whole life with no father or mother, and had grandparents that mistreated her. Its scary to think that there are people out there like her and that any day you could come across somebody like Aileen Wuornos, and not even know it. I think that Aileen Wuornos wanted nothing more then to be dead, and she got what she wanted. Her nightmare on this earth is finally over..

Saddam Hussein's excuse for this invasion was unclear, every day he would come up with a new excuse. He made clear to the world that the nation of Kuwait no longer existed, that it was now the nineteenth province of Iraq. He made it very clear that it would stay that way forever or Iraq would turn it into a "graveyard.".

The world leaders at the U.N. and the Arab League immediately disagreed with the Iraqi invasion. President Bush quickly agreed that the invasion should not be allowed to stand. As a resolution President Bush quickly decided to freeze all Iraqi and Kuwaiti assets in the United States, and banned the import of Iraqi oil.

Do my essay on Church and State; Not "PC" Anymore CHEAP !

The recent case in Alabama regarding the removal of a monument of the Ten Commandments caught my attention. This type of fear seems to be rising up everywhere. I always thought that the religious conflicts were all in the South, the "Bible Belt". However, our own government is getting in on the act. The Americans United for Separation of Church and State along with those who claim to be atheist's would like to see the removal of all religious symbolism from the governmental domain (World News Digest, 00). I do not agree. I would like to discuss the first amendment, where the church and state already meet and where our government is taking us.

From the Bill of Rights from the Cornell School of Law website, Amendment I reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for the redress of grievances." Wow, what a powerful statement that amendment is. No law can be made with respect to religion, or to prohibit the free exercise of religion, or speech or writing. Then why is the government so focused on removing the word God from our Pledge of Allegiance that has been said in school for years and years? Why was it so important to remove the monument that shows the people who probably most need to be reminded of the Ten Commandments from the Alabama courthouse? Why are those who say there is no type of God allowed to remove something that shows a belief? The tide seems to be turning where those who wish to practice religion must do so in the privacy of their churches or homes. Somehow those same people are not to bring that belief into their everyday life. However, those who believe there is nothing spiritual to believe in are given the right to expose everyone to their beliefs. This confuses me.

Although this latest controversy is centered in the Southern states, it brings to mind all the strife this country has endured over the past few years in the name of a god. If our currency can hold the statement, "In God We Trust," why can we not have a monument to the Ten Commandments (US Treasury, 00)? When this country was formed it was out of religious strife from Britain. The Declaration of Independence refers to religion (National Archives and Record Administration, NARA, 00). It does seem some are not familiar with this country's beginning. At the website, http//www.geocities.com/orvillejenkins/faithlife/religionstatefl.html the statements found here are thought provoking and in line with the thoughts of this paper. "Discussion List Comment. The Ten Commandments ought to be in every town square and every public building, IMHO. this nation and this government were founded on principles from the Bible and the 10 commandments, by Christian men who believed in freedom and liberty!.The US has a heritage of Christianity. It is appropriate and worthwhile to recognize that. Oh, and by the way, this doesnt violates the separation of church and state clause. Those that claim that it does dont really understand where weve come from and what that really means..Dr. Orville Boyd Jenkins brings forth many thoughts in his response to these statements. "This was a bold new experiment in society and government, new to the world, to history and to political or moral philosophy. It is not appropriate to revise history just to support a current point of view. The new American Republic was established as a secular state where power was centered in the citizenry, religious instituitions were prevented from using the powers of the state for coercion..Likewise the state was prohibited from limiting the activities of any religious institution. This preserved access to the public arena for all views, including religious views. " How many people who are so involved in their own thoughts are aware of these thoughts. Are we spiraling so out of control that being politically.correct has become more important to being morally or spiritually correct? Our government should strive to make everyone in this melting pot that America is safe for all to speak their mind. To relegate a stone monument to a back room so people who do not believe feel safe is somehow ironic. Are these same people going to stop using currency? Will they stop to look at the documents that formed this country so long ago and admit they have a basis in religion.Again from Dr. Orville Boyd Jenkins (00) "Religious individuals and institutions were required thus to win others to their point of view by discussions and persuasion, not coercion, as had been done in the early colonies. The constitution did not promise freedom from religious opinion, though religious harassment would be monitored just as any other form of harassment." Powerful, is it not? Can it be said that bringing a lawsuit against one person or one institution simply because they express their belief is a form of coercion? It is nice to be able to ask that question without fear of retribution. All of our amendments should be embraced, not just those that suit the situation. The hope is while all people fight to be heard, they keep in mind that just having that right to be heard is a big part of what this United States is about. Placing one person's belief over another's in not right and should not be tolerated. When will our appointed officials start to remember that and forget who may or may not be better for them come voting time. I interviewed Neddy; he grew up in Gurthmore Rosmore Cashel Co. Tipperary in the 150s. He lived with his brother and two cousins who were orphaned when they were young in a two storey slate house. The house was relatively big for the time.

His parents were farmers and had 10 acres of land some of which was bag land where turf was cut. There were horses, sheep, cows, pigs, chicken, ducks and geese on the farm. They kept 1 milking shorthorn cows which were hand milked twice a day, the milk was taken to the creamery in Turaheen which was five miles away it would take around 40 minutes. The milk was transported by horse and cart. The horses they kept were Clydesdale and Irish Draft. The price of milk was 0 pence per gallon. On average a cow could be milked in five minutes and the average cow would give five gallons. They also kept 15 ewes and three to four pigs which were killed threw out the year; the meat was cured in salt and brown sugar for weeks. Hens were kept for eggs and the geese and ducks were also killed threw out the year.

Neddy went to Turaheen National School. His education finished after sixth class. He left school to work on the farm at home. He played hurling for Rossmore and went hunting with his friends they used shotguns and terriers; they sometimes went to a "dance" in the hall in Upperchurch..

There was much work to be done on the farm as in those days there was almost no machinery, everything was done by hand. Turf and wood was fuel for the fire, the turf was cut from there own bog, and wood was cut with a "tysic saw", it took two people to operate this saw one at either side.

Most of the food consumed in the household was home grown. Turnips, carrots, potatoes (spuds), barley and cabbage were produced at home. Sowing these crops took a lot of hard work. The vegetables were grown on the garden with was a plot of acres of good soil near to the house. The spuds were the most important crop first of all the ground was ploughed with a Double Howard Plough which was pulled by a single horse preferably an Irish Draft as they would be better on there feet than a Clydesdale which could damage the drills with there feet. Then the "scillans" of the spuds were put in the drill an equal distance apart. These are like the seeds. The drills were then closed again by the plough and a "shake" of manure was put over the "scillans". The drills would now be "moulded" this meant the horse would pull u large flat kind of bolder this was just to flatten off the drills altogether. When the stem of the plant would appear they were sprayed with two gallons of "bluestone" (copper sulphate) and washing soda. This combination kept the blight off and was distributed with a "budget" which was a pump action spray. The drills would have to be constantly hoed to keep weeds away. When the spuds were ready for harvesting the plough would then open the drill again to get at the spuds below. They were then picked by hand. Later there was a "potato picker" which was pulled by a horse and the rotation of the wheels would turn arms at the back which would throw the spuds out of the drills and all you had to do then was pick them up. The spuds were then stored under some old straw outdoors for protection as sheds were not so plentiful then. Turnips were picked by hand after the plough had opened the drill. Turnips were also used as feed for the animals and a "pulper" mixed turnips and mangles together as feed for the animals. Cabbage and carrots were picked by hand. The barley was cut with a "bamford mower" and gathered with a "fifteen tooth gatherer" the neighbours would join together to "thrash" the barley, this was to separate the oats from the straw. Hay was also cut using a "bamford mower" and gathered using a "fifteen tooth gatherer".

On weekdays Neddy usually got up at a quarter to seven and in summer he sometimes worked until 1 that night if the weather was good. On Sundays he got up at 6 in the morning to have the cows milked and the milk gone to the creamery and to be back in time for mass at 10. Breakfast wasn't eaten until after mass as you had to fast before hand. There was a fair in Thurles on the first Tuesday of every month. This is where you sold your animals if you were selling them. The fair would be starting at 6am so he would have to leave home around 4am as you would be walking to Thurles with the animal you were selling, if you were selling an in calf heifer you would have to leave at 1 that night as she would be delicate and you couldn't rush her. You had to do your own dealing in those days so you did your best to find a buyer. Cattle weren't registered in those days and cattle were sometimes stolen. The fair would be over around 1 midday.

There was no vets in those days and if an animal got sick you either Penicillin or a mug of Poteen and hoped for the best. Poteen was illegal but easily obtained. Neddy said that if he ever had a cold or a chill he'd take a shot of Poteen and go to bed and he wouldn't wake up until 1 the next day..

At Christmas they had a special dinner. It was a three course meal of soup, turkey and vegetables and wine, and rice or cornflour for desert..

Mr. Birling, who is questioned by the Inspector first. Mr. Birling is described as heavy looking, rather portentous...in his middle fifties with fairly easy manners.... rather provincial in his speech. Birling is fairly successful in his line of work and is always trying to become better. He is selfish and slightly mean. He could even be described as old fashioned. However he is a warm character and he is also very nice to his family..Examples of this selfishness can be found a lot in the story. For example, on page seven of the book, Mr. Birling rambles on about such nonsense like The unsinkable Titanic, very little chance of a World War and of Russia being technically and socially behind Mr. Birling feels that he is never wrong.Mr. Birling first met Eva Smith when she came to work in his factory two years before she died. Mr. Birling started off the chain of events, which lead to Evas death by firing her from her job for asking for a pay-rise and for organizing a strike.. Mr. Birling shows relatively little guilt for Evas death, but feel that he is not responsible because at the end of the play he does feel very guilty when the Inspector says his final speech. He says, Look Inspector-Id give thousands-yes thousands. showing that he did in fact begin to accept some of the blame. Also he did behave, as many other managers of that time would have done. Money was a precious thing and if a manager spotted a troublemaker who could cause him to lose profits he had to get rid of the problem..

Cheap Custom Essays on the Birlings

Sheila Birling is questioned next by the Inspector. Sheila is the daughter of Mr. Birling and is described as, a pretty girl in her early twenties...pleased about life...excited She is probably a sweet lively young girl who appreciates life. She sometimes is quite mean and immature..Sheila first became acquainted with Ms Smith when Eva received a job at Milwards, a well-known clothing store. Sheila and her mother went to this store quite often. Eva worked as sales assistant at this store and Sheila got Eva fired when she lost her temper at her for smiling at her in a way, which she found offensive. Sheila could be compared to her father as she too helped to cause Evas death by getting her sacked from her job. When she heard of Ms Smiths death, Sheila feels immediately responsible and wishes to take on all of the blame. As she feels so guilty when in fact she did relatively little, I believe that Sheila is not to blame. She also continues to feel guilty after learning that there was not an Eva Smith..Gerald is the next character to be interrogated by the Inspector. Gerald is a calm and sensible person, liked very much by Mr. and Mrs. Birling and liked by Eric also. Gerald is a well-mannered man who is generally a nice person..His involvement with Eva Smith or as she is now known, Daisy Renton, started out very honorably. His tale starts in a bar where he spots Daisy being cornered by a drunken Aldermann Meggarty. He then learns of her homelessness and offers a flat for her to live in for the moment. He gave Daisy everything which she craved for at that point in her life, a home, food, money and the thing which she craved most of all; companionship. She soon became his mistress but Gerald broke it off and did not see her again. Although Gerald could be seen as a user, stringing her along as long as he needed her, he did provide her with some happiness for a long time, something that she had not had for a long time. As he cared for her and felt guilty when he knew who she was I feel that Gerald is only partly to blame. He is however more to blame than Sheila, as he does not care about the girl to greatly until he learns that he knew of her. He then doesnt care after he learns that Daisy did not really die, instead of feeling guilty for what he did do to her..Eric Birling was associated with Eva due to his relationship with her. Eric is seen as immature and much like his sister. He is described as, much less at ease than his sister... half shy, half assertive..Eric met this girl at the Palace Bar, a place popular for young ladies who wanted to find young men. He began talking to her and he then offered to take her home whereupon he forced his way into her house and made love to her. His excuse for his behavior was primarily that he was drunk. He continued to see her for some time before she told him that she thought that she was pregnant. She refused to take any money from Eric, as she knew that it was stolen from his fathers business and she also refused to do what was at that time considered to be the decent thing and marry Eric because she knew that he did not love her. She decided to get help from the local organization for Brumleys Women. Eric, although immoral and irresponsible in his actions, did offer to support her and was even prepared to go and steal from his own fathers business in order to do so..Eric also continued to feel guilty after learning that there was no Daisy, just as his sister did. All of this shows that Eric, despite all of his actions, did try to do what was right afterwards and therefore should not have the most blame put on his conscience..I thought that Mrs. Birling was the most to blame because her actions were chosen with no thought whatsoever to what the consequences may be or whether what she was doing was right. Mrs. Birling is described as about fifty in age...cold.... her husbands social superior.... unaffected by the Inspectors interrogation....All the way through the act Mrs. Birling has no guilt for what has happened to this girl. To her, the very matter of the death is beneath her and her family. In her mind, the death is a great shame, but nothing to do with her and nothing for her to worry about..Mrs. Birling met Daisy two weeks before her supposed death. Daisy came to the Brumley Womens Charity Organization appealing for money and help to support her child. Abortion was out of the question as it was not in legal practice at this time. As Daisys child was conceived with Eric, she chose to take his surname. Mrs. Birling took this offensively, thinking that the girl meant to be mean and lost her temper, which led her to become against her case from the start.Mrs. Birling does not feel at all guilty for the girls death and her view does not change at all during the duration of the play. She remains cold and stone-faced even when every other member of the family has been accused and has accepted the blame..She sees Sheila as immature and naive throughout the play and does not realize how much Sheila matures towards the end of the play. She constantly puts her down, telling her to stop being a," hysterical young girl..My main reason for thinking that Mrs. Birling is responsible is because she was not Mrs. Birling carried out her actions with no thought to what effects it could have and then continued to dismiss her mistake after the death. For these reasons I feel that if anyone, she is the most to blame. The majority of the audience will agree with my..
