In my opinion the best part of Eating, Sleeping, And Getting Up was how it related to everyday battles in the home. The author really gets to the root cause of these battles. We need to change our reactions and responses to our children and their behavior. Subsequently they will take on more of the responsibility that is theirs to begin with; and our homes will become much happier places.

In the book, Eating, Sleeping, And Getting Up there is an emphasis on the parents revising their behavior to adopt new attitudes and techniques from the beginning. The book provides several pages of very helpful tools in order to help the parent learn this new behavior. This book is a must have in every home. It is easy to read, easy to understand and will help instill disipline into your children for a lifetime.

Lets take a little tour of the book. Think about the modern day family, how stressed and rushed everyone has become. With all the homework, extracurricular activities criticism from adults, peer pressure(not to mention your stress level) it is no wonder family stress is escalating. Respectful parenting is a good foundation for understanding and establishing real respect (self-respect and respect for others) so that children will know and do what is expected of them. Parents and children both influnce each other positively or negitively. In early childhood your children may try to help the parent with the chores and get a negative reaction from the parent. The child needs a since of belonging to emulate you and you may unwittingly stifle thier positive attempts and discourage the childs natural desire to help. Children who are denied avenues of belonging that are positive in nature (such as helping others, being responsible, cooperating)will eventually hit on behaviors that bring about negative responses from their parents. It is imparitive that parents on occasion however inconveinient, take the time to let the child learn how to do the things to help you, no matter how young they may be. In recent times small-scale American farms have been diminishing. The environment, larger corporate farms, and advances in technology and machinery have been causing economic difficulties for small family farms for years..

The farming techniques practiced in 1700 were somewhat limited by lack of technological advancements which we have in modern times. Farmers raised corn, beans and squash. Women did the farming while men were responsible for hunting and making tools. Families were subsistence farmers, raising just enough for their family to survive throughout the year. Many built separate summer and winter lodges in areas where climate was an issue..The split rail fence, wheat field, rooting pigs and log house became popular in the 1800's. During this time farms were in transition between subsistence agriculture (producing enough for the family to survive) and becoming a profit-making farm. Most farms in 1850 averaged 1 acres in size, with farmers cultivating anywhere from 5 to 40 acres. Corn, wheat and potatoes were the three major crops in 1850. Most farmers used their corn crop to feed the pigs that were then sold for profit. Wheat and hogs were cash crops for farmers, and potatoes were a staple with nearly every meal and lasted throughout the winter months..Around 1850 many pioneer families finally earned enough money to purchase more modern technology and work new land such as the Louisiana Territory. Eventually settlers would move westward in search of rich agricultural land. During these times it was not surprising to see women preparing food over an open fire although wood-burning cook stoves were available. Log houses were built as temporary structures that pioneers improved or replaced once the farm was established..

Pioneer families relied on poultry for three major purposes meat, eggs, and money. Pioneers who raised pigs usually built a smokehouse to help preserve the pork. In 1850, barns were of less significance to the farm than in later years. Barns were used to store tools and some crops, rather than to house animals. Larger barns that are associated with the more modern farms were not built until around the 1870s..Around 1870 there was an unexpected drought which decreased the average size of small farms by nearly 68%. This means that now the average farm size would be around 16 acres instead of 1 acres. This is only one example of how the environment puts pressure and stress on the agricultural industry..Dramatic changes in farming occurred between 1850 and 100. The end of the Civil War led into the Industrial Revolution, and changes resulted throughout the barnyard. Instead of doing chores by hand, farmers used modern machinery to cut hay, plant corn, and bind oats. Inside the farm kitchen, the wood-burning cook stove and the Mason jar made food preparation and preservation much easier..Post-Civil War towns soon became popular. The major theme of these communities was the interdependence between farmers, craftsmen, and merchants that worked and lived in and around the towns. These locations acted as supply centers for farmers in the surrounding areas. Many of these little towns included general stores, banks, newspaper stands, a church, cemetery, drug stores, carpenter's shops and warehouses..In these towns early evidence of the Industrial Revolution could be seen with mass-produced furniture stocked in warehouses, factory goods in the general store, and laborsaving machinery in the carpenters shops. When railroads began to arrive in towns and craftsmen gradually began to disappear as a result of being undersold by eastern factories, the towns shifted heavily to service and retail functions..The large barns were the center of daily activity on turn-of-the-century farms. Most farmers used the barn for multiple purposes, such as storing hay and oats, stabling animals, milking cattle, and storing tools and equipment. Farmers harvested hay in June, July, and August, and then stored it in the barn to feed the animals during the winter months. Hay-mows, centrally located in the barns, held more than 0 tons of loose hay.By 100, most farmers used draft horses for hard labor. The 1,00 pound animals plowed the fields for corn and oats, planted the crops, cultivated the fields, brought in the hay crop, picked field corn, and hauled manure. These farms would not have been as successful without the aid of the horses..New technology had reached most farms in 100, by way of the hand-crank telephone, Acorn cook stove, and updated farm equipment, such as the horse-powered plow, planter, hay press and more. Corn, oats, and hay were the most common crops at the turn-of-the century. Some commonly raised farm animals included sheep, chickens, hogs, cows, beef cattle, ducks, geese, and turkeys..Around the beginning of the 0th century, small farms began to see more competition by bigger commercialized farms. At this time gas-powered tractors became a new trend for farmers. One could then begin to see that these were not exactly cheap and therefore larger farms were mainly able to buy more of these and therefore come up with even greater production while the small farmer was beginning to get left behind by the upcoming larger commercial farms.Today, big commercial farm production capability outweighs smaller farms by a large amount. Commercialized farms only consist of about % of all farms but still have an output greater than 40% whereas the other 7% of smaller farms combine for a little more than 60% of the national agricultural output. On the same hand, between 1-8% of total profits usually ever get into the hands of the farmer..A change in modernized machinery has lead to a more productive and less time consuming jobs for farmers. Labor which was once completed in 0 hours could now be done in just -4 hours. Once again for farms which could afford more of these machines would be the ones which would become more productive and these were mostly the larger farms.Today, farmers do not feel directly concerned with government and tend to be highly critical of bureaucracy and regulations. However, they do expect the government to play an active role in supporting organic farming. This seems to present an unsolvable contradiction. Some organizations work to improve relations between farmers and government by exploring and testing new policy instruments such as area contracts and also by getting farmers and government officials directly involved in the same projects. In conclusion, my opinion is that there is not much room for small farmers to get ahead in the future. The world itself is becoming so much more technologically advanced and people with the big money are the ones which can afford to buy better tools and workers which are crucial to produce massive amounts of product. Farms will continue to get larger and fewer as our nation ages. Profit margins will most likely continue to narrow. The division of time between labor and management will change. The successful farmer will spend more time behind a desk crunching numbers and less time driving tractors or feeding hogs. Labor and management may also become more specialized. Farmers will focus on either crop or livestock production..

Small business is a major driver of economic growth in Australia. According to Department of State and Regional Development recent research has shown that NSW has 6% of small business operated and employed more than 1 million people. There are three major types of business in Australia sole traders, partnership, and company. A sole trader is owned by one individual. The basic advantage is the owner has the authority to make all the decisions. Also, it is simplify form of business organization to start and maintain all profit belong to sole trader. Sole trader structure is not governed by law and regulations that can have more privacy on owner. When profits are generated or the threat of legal liability becomes a problem a business can adapt to one of two other businesses entitle. As well the business liabilities are personal liabilities and owner undertake the risk of the business for all assets owned, whether used in the business in the business or personally owned. On the other hand, sole traders are taxed like any other individual taxpayer. Sole traders must be aware that at the end of their first year of business they must pay not only their tax for the first year, may also provisional tax for the second year. Sole traders business is simple and inexpressive to set up, but owners will need an initial capital requirement to start the business. Such as office equipment, utilities or any furniture and fittings. When the owners probably have very little spare capital that is a healthy way of organising a business at start up..A partnership is the most popular legal form of small business that two or more persons join together in the operation and management of a business venture. A partnership is not taxable entity; each partnership share of the partnership's income or loss on their tax return and additional capital is available to the business from the partners. On the other hand, when the partners are sharing decisions may lead to partnership dissolved and increased administration to account for separates interests. Likewise partnership also is the most simple form and cost very little. The owner can purchase limited assets and material for operating their own business. Such as computer or any furniture..Unlike a sole trader or partnership, a company is a separate legal entity, which continues even if the owner dies, and is separate to each of the owner. A company have one or more persons to carry on a business. The advantages of this business structure are shareholders have limited liability for company debts and the company tax rate is lower than the personal income tax rate. Under the imputation system, when the company pay franked dividend to shareholders that can rise to tax credit, which allows the company to pass on tax benefits. In additional, the law require all companies must be registered with the ASIC and must report the financial record for ASIC. Thus that reduces the confidentiality and privacy of company's activities and financial results. The process of establishing and incorporate a company is more complex as they have strict legal requirement and regulations and costly than sole traders and partnership. Because they purchase more equipment, material, hire professional management staffs, publication fees and legal fees for operate their business. Company structure is the easier way to raise capital from the shareholders because they know the business operating and financial records..

In my interviewer, they are Pity's Gift Shop and Mother Chu's Vegetarian Kitchen. Pitty's gift shop is a crystal gift shop. The shop owners Mrs.E chose sole trader for her business structure. Due to bad experience with ex partner argument, she did not want to join with anyone and withhold all authority by herself to make decision. But she said the major disadvantage of the shop is the cost of operating. In the nature of the Pitty's gift shop, swarovski crystal are the mianly stock source rather than other brand crystal. Therefore they need to prepare a huge amount of money for buying these kind of stocks. The second interviewee is Mother Chu Vegetarian Kitchen who runs partnership business between mother and childs. Mrs Chu said partnership is most suited to business operated by family members. Because both of child shares capital, profit, skill, experience and risk with family member, also that can avoid disputes with other person. However, they have no need the partnership agreement and a bank statement in joint names is sufficient evidence for the tax office to recognise the existence of a partnership. And Mother Chu said this is a Chinese culture which business is pass on from one generation to other.Despite small business is a major economic, the most of Australia banks avoid lending money for small business, even if the small business has a successful business. Unless business can show the good recorded of repayment of debt otherwise 70% of the security up front are must apply be lending. But that is impossible for small business to up front security. Furthermore all NSW small business must comply the new OHS rule from September 1 that if a person injury in workplace which employers take all responsible for visitors or employees. Likewise, the legislation requires consult with employees on health and safety. But basic on partnership structure that partner's can not employed himself or herself. This mans they cannot be covered by work cover in the event of a workplace accident. Thus that will increase the business operating cost for owner. At my option, operating as a partnership is best suited to a person who does not have any operate business experience. On the other hand, partnership is simple and low cost to operate. Moreover, partnership can claim deduction from the business expense such as rent, depreciation and car expense. As well, partnership can contribute the managerial skills and ability to raise funds for the business. Another advantage of partnership that would share the risk with partners and one partner can cover another partner's absence in times of sickness or holiday, which probably explains why I choose partnership. Finally, when owners choose business structure that will depend on the circumstance of the business, such as the type of business they operate, financial need and availability of fund or taxation considerations and it can also often depend on the stage of development of the business life cycle..

"The tragic mulatta" exists in a realm of her own between black and white societies, struggling to assume an identity in one of the two. Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry, characters of Nella Larsen's Passing , were born alike as mulattas but their decisions in life have led them to diverging paths that sets Clare on one side of the "tragic mulatta" and Irene on the other. Meeting by chance twelve years after Clare had left to pursue an identity in white society, the two develop a relationship of social and sexual desire for each other that cannot be satisfied and only serves to encumber each other's life. The attempt to uphold such a relationship results in the destruction of both lives the ultimate end of impossibility. The context and conclusion of their relationship reflects the impossibility of successful social boundary transgressions.

Race transgression offers an escape to burdens of race, yet to fully benefit from transgression one has to cut off all ties to racial heritage. Wishing to regain security in her personal life, Irene is lost, "For the first time she suffered and rebelled because she was unable to disregard the burden of race. It was, she cried silently, enough to suffer as a woman, an individual, on one's own account, without having to suffer for the race as well (Pg. 8)." Stressed by the fact that her personal desires conflict with her allegiance to race, Irene wishes for an escape found only by "disregard[ing] the burden of race." Clare has proven that it is easy to transgress into white society and Irene sees the benefits Clare maintains the high social status, remains carefree in life, and is not weighed down by family-life. For this, Irene envies Clare and desires this aspect of Clare's lifestyle.Ironically, it is this very lifestyle that Clare attempts to escape in order to be with her "own people," a life similar to Irene's. Clare admits, "It may be,'Rene dear, it may just be, that, after all, your way may be the wiser and infinitely happier one (Pg. 47)." Irene represents a strong tie to racial heritage, proving to Clare that racial transgression is not necessary to establish oneself in high-society. The fact that Clare views Irene as the "wiser and infinitely happier one" and her frequent visits exposes Clare's yearning to take back her decision to completely pass to reestablish herself in Black society. However, her fraudulent marriage to a white man who believes she is white restricts her from doing so. This reciprocal relationship presents a dilemma Irene has to endure the burden of her social obligations and has to give up passing into white society whereas Clare endures the inescapability of completely passing into white society and has to give up ties to her racial heritage. This dilemma hints at the impossibility of social boundary transgressions because one will always yearn for what is given up.Clare and Irene's relationship goes deeper than mere envy; there exists homosexual tension between the two. Clare is an object of Irene's lust, one that she cannot pursue because she married Brian in order to pass in heterosexual society.

Cheap Custom Essays on Passing into Impossibility

In Clare's presence, however, curiosity and lust plagues Irene, she "reminded herself that she ought immediately to go. But she didn't move. The truth was, she was curious (Pg. 4)" This curiosity only grows as they meet. On many occasions, Irene is reluctant to allow herself to come in contact with Clare, yet Clare's visits are somehow always managed. Upon each contact with one another, Irene's curiosity and lust growingly nags at her but it is impossible for Irene to pursue her desire without endangering her secure passing in heterosexual life. A similar dilemma is present, due to her decision to pass into heterosexual society, Irene is forced to endure sexual tension in her marriage (or lack there of) and must give up pursuit of her true desires. Homosexual curiosity and lust will always distress Irene, reinforcing the impossibility of boundary transgression.

Within this relationship, neither possesses power over her own life, but rather holds indirect power over each other's. Clare writes to Irene, "‘For I am lonely, so lonely… cannot help longing to be with you again, as I have never longed for anything before… and it's your fault,'Rene dear. At least partly. For I wouldn't now, perhaps, have this terrible, this wild desire if I hadn't seen you that time in Chicago…' (Pg. 11)" The desire Clare refers to is the desire to return to the life which she had left behind long ago. Clare blames Irene for this desire, thus, although not in direct control of it, Irene holds power over Clare Irene is a driving force behind Clare's actions. This desire draws her to Harlem on a frequent basis, to come in contact with her past, risking her marriage and safety. If it were not for meeting Irene in Chicago, if it were not for Irene's tie to the past and to their racial heritage, then perhaps Irene would hold no power over Clare, leaving her free of any such desires. Irene's indirect power over Clare is evident.

On the other hand, Clare holds indirect power over Irene's emotions. Clare's assertive presence becomes an infringement upon Irene's secure life. Returning from their first encounter, Irene's state of mind is affected by the mere thought of Clare, "she was aware of a sense of irritation with herself because she had been pleased and a little flattered at the other's obvious gladness at their meeting. With her perspiring progress homeward this irritation grew (Pg. 0)." The irritation grew until she reached home and resolved that she was through with Clare Kendry. However, she was not through, and this irritation evolved into discontent. Irene no longer held her secure life, wishing once again to be rid of Clare's presence. Unfortunately for Irene, Clare's presence extends into the lives of those surrounding Irene, particularly her husband Brian. Irene is suspicious, "But she had an instinctive feeling that it hadn't been the whole cause of his attitude… Her fright was like a scarlet spear of terror leaping at her heart. Clare Kendry! So that was it! Impossible. It couldn't be (Pg. 8)." Paranoia emerges; Irene concludes that Clare and Brian are having an affair and this drives her emotions. Her radical emotions are described as "a scarlet spear of terror leaping at her heart," demonstrating the extent to which Clare holds power. In this scene, Irene's emotions also begin to take affect on her physical capabilities, as she fumbles with her make-up at this thought. At first, it had been Clare's flattering and pleasing that drove Irene's emotions but soon grew to be her involvement in Irene's life that guided her. Clare's power lies in the fact that she induces Irene's thoughts and ultimately drives her emotions.

To hold power over one's own life, there mustn't be any other powers controlling it. For Clare to have power over her own life once again, she needs to fully submit to Irene's power over her. Once Clare has established her old life, she would lose all desire to Irene, rendering Irene powerless over Clare. For Irene, she needs to be rid of Clare completely so that her presence and involvement could no longer exist. One possibility is for her to reveal Clare's true background to her husband in hope that her husband would then refrain her from visiting Harlem. For both, this cannot happen because of the social boundary they have chosen to live in. Clare cannot regain her old life because of her passing and marriage into white society. And because of her choice to remain a part of black society, Irene holds a racial duty to protect Clare's identity as a passer. Yet again, their placements in social boundaries have restricted them from pursuing personal goals.

Just as boundary transgressions are impossible to achieve, the relationship between the two could not exist. Irene's emotional destruction and Clare's death demonstrate the emotional and physical planes in which social boundary transgression can damage. Although the survivor of the window incident, Irene's life will forever be changed. All that remains for Irene is to live her life in denial. She is forced to deny the possible affair between Brian and Clare and to forget the desired death of a friend to basically rid Clare from her memories.Clare is only physically gone though, laying dead on the ground. It is irrelevant how she ended up there, for, as with Clare, boundary transgression could fail due to an outside force, self-destruction, or a simple mishap. Irene reacts to Clare's death, "Gone! The soft white face, the bright hair, the disturbing scarlet mouth, the dreaming eyes, the caressing smile, the whole torturing loveliness that had been Clare Kendry. That beauty that had torn at Irene's placid life. Gone! The mocking daring, the gallantry of her pose, the ringing bells of her laughter (Pg. 111)." Gone! The soft white face and bright hair that allows one to pass, the disturbing scarlet mouth and caressing smile that advances one in society, the dreaming eyes of one's hope to free of burdens, the whole torturing hope that had been boundary transgression..

The Economic Impact of Baby Boomer.During the period of 146 through 164, America experienced the largest growth rate ever. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census, this currently equates to approximately 76 million people and % of the United States (U.S.) population, ranging from ages through 57 years of age (Baby Boomer Headquarters [BBH], 00).Some suggest that the increased birth rate during that period was due to women (whose husbands were returning from the war) choosing to bear children that were postponed during the Depression and World War II period, in addition to the booming post-war economy (Macunovich, 000, p. ). With this group being such a large portion of the U. S. population, baby boomers, in the past, currently, and will in the future have a profound impact on key macroeconomic areas such as resources, goods and services (consumption), and loanable funds.Labor is the largest component of the resources market and baby boomers for some time have been center stage in this aggregate market. Many parents of baby boomers sent their children to college, encouraging them to be competitive and to succeed in the job market. Using the basic definition for civilian labor force, baby boomers make up the largest portion of workers, compared to other individual generations, who are in the work force in America today. In fact, they have been credited for the low unemployment rate over the last two decades. According to economist Michael T. Owyang, "On an average unemployment rose during the 170s as the baby boomers entered the labor force and the median age of the labor force declined. Since 180, as the baby boomers have entered middle age, the median age of the labor force has risen while the trend unemployment rate has fallen" (Owyang, 001). In the U.S., labor account for approximately 70 percent of production cost. Baby boomers represent the labor force in all areas of or nation, from the President of the United States, George W. Bush, to great CEOs like Bill Gates of IBM. Big name baby boomers such as Paul Allen and Steve Ballmer, CEOs of General Electric and Ford; Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, Michael Jordan Tom Hanks, Michael Jackson, Rush Limbaugh, Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, and Bruce Springsteen, have been responsible for generating billions of dollars in the economy as their presences and names alone represent money. Not only do their occupations demand enormous income, but they, themselves have also helped generate jobs for others. Whether through an innovative idea, formation of corporations, or in the entertainment industry, they must be credited for having a tremendous impact on the wealth in the economy that is generated by their association. Additionally, the list of employment areas that are saturated by baby boomers include farming, construction, real estate sales, public administration, management analysts, teachers, professors, dentists, psychologists, crane operators, engineers and authors to name a few.Baby boomers are an essential part of the labor force, and many other occupations exist in part because of them. For example, the day care industry emerged to accommodate married boomers who chose to combine their careers with parenthood. With both parents working, day care facilities and day care workers were in high demand. Other occupational areas that have been directly influenced by baby boomers are in the computer and software industry. Consider how many occupations have been generated because of baby boomer Bill Gates and Microsoft.Baby boomers will be around for a while too. Even as they age, many plan to work during their retirement years; this will keep them in the work force longer than previous generations. Baby boomers love technology and possess a great deal of computer skills, in addition, "They won't even think of themselves as being senior citizens until after they turn sixty ( percent) or seventy (4 percent)" (Lamb, Jr., Hair, Jr. &, McDaniel, 004, p. 65). Already, organizations such as Wal-Mart and McDonalds have recognized and capitalized on this emerging segment of the labor force by hiring older workers. Another reason why baby boomers will be in the labor force longer is that they are aware of the rising issues concerning social security. Help with essay on The Economic Impact of Baby Boomers

The effect in which baby boomers have had on society is often described as an image of a snake that has swallowed a pig. This large segment of society moves together at a slow steady pace. Thus, as baby boomers began to retire, this will cause yet another significant influence on the economy in the form of social security payments. Whereas around 150 there were 16 workers to every one retiree, those numbers have changed greatly to three workers to every one retiree. These numbers are predicted to change again as more baby boomers retire (Coyle, Jr., 18). The aging population of baby boomers will also expand employment opportunities in health care professions that care for the elderly, home health care providers, as well as (and unfortunately) the funeral industry. Today baby boomers are a very large portion of the labor force, helping to maintain a healthy economy, however, in the next 8 to 10 years the effects of their retirements could become a burden. Recently, Mr. Greenspan said, "Early initiatives to address the economic effects of baby-boom retirements could smooth the transition to a new balance between workers and retirees," He feels that, "If we delay, the adjustments could be abrupt and painful" (Associated Press [AP], 00). Nevertheless, for now basic economics still apply, baby boomers, who are part of households, supply resources in exchange for income, and when people have income, they will consume by purchasing goods and services..

Household consumptions are a major portion of the goods and service market. Personal consumption accounts for the largest portion of the Gross Domestic Product. Karen Axelton of Business Start-Ups magazine wrot.No matter what youre selling or to whom youre selling it, if you want to succeed youve got to understand the buying habits of the baby boomers--that massive generation born between 146 and 164. "Boomer marketing is the [key to] all marketing in this country for the next 5 year," contends Phil Goodman, founder of the Boomer Marketing & Research Center in San Diego. (Axelton, 18.Baby boomers continue to demand attention that is impossible to be ignored. They have driven the direction of consumer purchases for the last 57 years. As their parents were experiencing the effects of a great economy, nothing was too good for the baby boomer. Beginning at their infant stage, baby boomers added to the goods and services market in the form of consumption. Items such as baby food, disposable diapers, and toys were manufactured at a tremendous rate, while at the same time generating hundreds of new or improved items creating fierce competition in these areas of the market. As teenagers, they were the first generation with significant spending power that fueled the growth of massive marketing campaigns which introduced more new products and even terminology targeted at the boomers' in every stage of their the life cycle. Terms like "Hippie" and "pop group" labeled baby boomers and set patterns for different fashions. All around the country, clothing manufactures raced to capitalize on sales from mini-skirts, bell-bottoms, and relaxed fit jeans. "The term "Yuppie" (Young Urban Professional) was coined to describe the high-consumption, low-savings lifestyle of many boomers" (Macunovich, 000, p. 4). Designer clothing icons such as Izod, Polo, Calvin Klein and Gloria Vanderbilt must also pay homage to the baby boomers that help catapult their products for the last 0 to 0 years. Still to this day, baby boomers maintain their loyalty to these and many other name brand products. They clearly guided the record sales in the early product life cycle stages of items such as transistor radios, drive-in theaters, fast food processors, video recorders and computers. Since baby boomers do not see themselves as growing old, they consume many of the same items as their teenagers from video games to music. They are not considered as trend followers, however they do influence the purchases of their parents and their children (Axelton, 18). The success of the enormous sale of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) is another product that owes credit to the baby boomers. In short, if the boomer generation likes a product, others will follow. Baby boomers are the most affluent generation ever, thus, traveling, vacationing, recreation and entertainment are other areas where baby boomers leave their mark. They stay in more hotels and rent more cars than any other age group. Baby boomers are predicted to inherit $10.4 trillion in wealth transfers known as the "Inheritance Boom…This influx of wealth and additional disposable income present a huge opportunity for me-oriented spending, particularly in the travel industry" (National Tour Association [NTA], 00, p. 17). Their nostalgic memories of professional sports teams, Disney World and other theme parks, rock and roll and soul music, and fast food continue to help generate billions of dollars in our nation. When it comes to the housing market, baby boomers are still at the top of the list. They were responsible for the rise in real estate prices during their nesting age and the collapse of the real estate market in the late eighties. The nation can also expect a rise in the demand for retirement housing in the near future, as baby boomers grow older (Kressley, 18, p. ). As they move into their retirement years, they will surely present the goods and service market with many new money making issues. An example would be the discontinuous innovations that will be developed specifically due to the aging needs of this large cohort of elderly people. "Baby boomer demographics continue to drive the US economy and, by extension, the global economy…. they have the desire, ability and willingness to buy" (Greenwood, 1).

The good and services market also include government expenditures. Taking into consideration the fact that the government is not a person, this entity has to generate funds from somewhere in order to have expenditures. Almost half of the government's revenue at the federal level comes from personal taxes, and let us not forget taxes that are paid at the state and local levels. Thus, the working population of the 76 million baby boomers have supplied a significant portion of government revenue in the form of taxes. As mention earlier, because so many baby boomers are in the labor force, we should have a surplus of social security. However, since social security is the largest portion of government expenditures, the baby boomers are quickly on their way to collect and this may influence the economy negatively. They will definitely consume a huge portion of social security benefits when they retire, and with so many of them, it would behoove baby boomers to reduce their current consumption and began saving.Savings from households supply funds to the loanable funds market, which help direct the flow of income between business and households. Baby boomers supply an enormous amount of funds in the loanable funds market, not only through direct savings and investments, but also via interest paid on loans and credit cards purchases. One report indicated the following.[Baby boomers] have been credited by some with fueling the prolonged expansion of the stock market as they search for investment opportunities in their high-earning years. At least one source has suggested that saving by boomers has raised the saving rate about five basis points (.05 percentage points) per year, and that the aging of the baby boom generation will ultimately add a percentage point to the saving rate. (Gist, Wu &, Ford, 1, p. 1.

In closing, the baby boomer generation brought with it a wave of social and economic challenges, both positive and negative. The increased birth rate was not limited to America, but this boom happened in other countries like Canada, Japan, Australia, Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Some saw the invention of the birth control pill as a blessing in disguise that slowed down the birth rate in the U.S. beginning around 165. If one were to ask Baby Boomer Headquarters what effect do baby boomers have on the economy, they would respond as follow. We are amused when visitors ask what effect the boomers are having on the economy. Folks, in 00, the economy IS the boomers! We represent the vast majority of the work force. There are 76 million of us; we ARE the economy. The huge growth in the economy in the 0s was due in no small part to 76 million of us working up to our peak earning and spending years. (Baby Boomer Headquarters [BBH], 00.Whereas the baby boomers generation is still making an impressive impact on the national and global economy, one can't help but wonder what economic effect such a large group holds for the future..Reference.Associated Press (00, February 7, 00). We are gathered here to mourn the death of a beautiful little girl who has left us for the better into the kingdom of heaven.

Her innocence was marred by the immense influence and power of today¡¯s consumerism. So much so that she was ¡°singing an advertising commercial.¡± We can see that these days whole world is surrounded by consumerism that makes us live in of and become part of it that even at our death the last thing we regurgitate is something from an advertisement.Furthermore this girl was too young to even realize the money hungry skin behind the song she sang. And for this reason we should sincerely sympathize and pray that she will find a world free of this manipulative and contagious virus.

Cheap Custom Essays on Euology

The shallowness and hypocrisy of modern ideals and values take away the spirituality of this girl¡¯s journey to heaven. Some might think of this as a Hollywood type production with ¡°full volume up,¡± and people ¡°stand by for action.¡± I am glad in a sense that her infancy will not be used as a tool for ¡°sales-appeal¡± as she has left behind this immoral and shallow world.

.People¡¯s life can come to end anytime. We all are mortal and our mortality could crumple up ¡°like a paper cup.¡± This means we are fragile and also have a ¡°frail heart.¡± The reality is the society will not even blink at this fact and this evokes a sense of tragedy and despair inside me. However whether we feel the same way the world does not cater for this kind of morning.

.One of the main reasons why this society has no time for sympathy is due to the ruthless business ethics in consumerism. The consumerism pushes will perceive this girl¡¯s death as the ¡°earth¡¯s loss.¡± However they will try to turn this into a positive for then by seeing it as a ¡°heaven¡¯s gain¡± as advertising has gone beyond the mortal dimension to the spiritual level where it is eternal. Furthermore advertising is deemed as a religious experience which is an atrocious mentality..

.Therefore, I am glad her soul will find eternal peace in heaven away from the group of the clause of consumerism in our mortal world. Amen.

Frank's father's drinking affects him in several ways. His father's absence forces him into a position of responsibility at a young age. The poverty that is a consequence of purchasing alcohol requires Frank to witness mother's desperation, which results in shame. A conflict in a child who loves his father, but is also conscious of his father's destruction with alcohol is ensued..

Frank's father's alcoholism prevented him from being a reliable father and husband. Due to his drinking and irresponsibility, the role of the man of house was left open. Frank was forced at a young age to accept responsibility, and fill this position. When Mam falls ill and is sick in bed wanting lemonade, Frank feels he has to be the one to get it for her. His father is not around to do this for his wife, and even if he were he probably wouldn't. Frank had to steal to the lemonade from Kathleen for his ill mother. He feels this is wrong, but due to his sense of constant responsibility, he does what must be done. "It's wrong to steal from Kathleen with the way she's always good to us but if I go in and ask her for bread she will be annoyed and tell her I am ruining her morning cup of tea which she would like to have in peace ease and comfort thank you. It's easier to stick the bread under my jersey with the lemonade and promise to tell everything in confession" (6). Frank's family is in need, so he does what has to be done. He knows it is wrong to take from Kathleen, but still does because his father is not around to get his mother the lemonade. had to see his mom in pain a lot/exposed to seeing his mom desperate and begging and crying and being alone and angry....

Do my essay on Angela's Ashes - Frank's Father's Drinking CHEAP !

Frank had to deal with the shame of poverty at a young age, because his father squandered their money by choosing alcohol over his family. While his father was away working in Coventry Frank's family had moved in with Aunt Aggie, because they could not afford to live anywhere else. His father says that he will send his family money. A letter arrived informing them that he got there safely, but no money was enclosed. And after a couple weeks of waiting for the telegram containing money the family becomes desperate and his mother is forced to beg. "My mother is a beggar now and if anyone from the lane or the school sees her my family will be disgraced entirely. My pals will make up new names and torment me in the school yard and I'll know what they'll say, Frankie McCourt/ beggar woman's boy/ scabby-eyed/ dancing/ blubber-gob/ Jap" (50). Frank's father's drinking led his mother to ultimate desperation, leaving Frank feeling ashamed. This shame affected his home life, and he is worried about the opinions of those at school and in the neighborhood..

As a young boy Frank was able to recognize that alcohol makes his father a different person. He state.

I think my father is like the Holy Trinity with three people in him, the one in the morning with the paper, the one at night with the stories and the prayers, and the one who does the bad thing and comes home with the smell of whiskey and wants us to die for Ireland.

I feel sad over the bad thing but I can't back away from him because the one in the morning is my real father and if I were in America I could say, I love you, Dad, the way they do in films, but you can't say that in Limerick for fear you might be laughed at. You're allowed to say you love God and babies and horses that win but anything else is a softness in the head. (10.Frank loves his father for the separate entity that comes forth when he is sober. He tolerates the drunkenness, because he is different when he is not drinking, though nothing completely compensates for the hardships that his father bestowed on the family. Frank does not look up to his father blindly though. Frank remarks, "I could easily have Uncle Pa for a father" (47). He acknowledges that it would be easier to have someone who is loving and laughs and does not spend all the money on drink, however he seems to accept that he has what he was. Frank understand that it's tough living with his father's alcoholism, but is able to see there are different sides of people. From his father's drinking, he learns that people sometimes do bad things without necessarily being bad people all of the time. This is a fairly mature conclusion for such a young boy to arrive at..
