Now I will tell about Norma Jeane when to live with her mother best friend at the age of eleven years old, until Grace McKee, husband made sexual advances toward her and then she had to go to a other foster homes again. She was assaulted in at least two of the foster homes, and possibly more, all before she was twelve years old. Every time Norma Jeane was taken out of one the foster homes; it sent a strong message to her. At the age of fifteen years old she married James Dougherty, the son of McKee's neighbor, Grace and Doc where moving away and were able to take her with them. She was married a year with James Dougherty when he left to the Merchant Marines to go fight in World War II broke out. On one day a photographer showed up to take pictures for a magazines story about women working to defend the country. The photographer told her that she was pretty enough to be a model. (Summers, 410) Then he put in contact with a modeling agency, which in turn found her a film agent. In a little more than a year later, she had divorced James Dougherty, negotiated a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox, and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. After some initial difficulties in locating work, she found one particular agent named Johnny Hyde who had friends in high places, and was able to get Marilyn noticed. Her career took off rapidly, one successful movie after another. She became very attracting a good amount of attention from people in all walks of life. She caught the eyes of powerful men, men with influence both famous and infamous, men with greatly varied roles to play in the public spotlight. Now some of these men had played a darker role, one hidden from the public spotlight, when they planned and executed a horrendous plot to end the life of America's most famous sex symbol. One such man was none other John F. Kennedy, the President of the United States..When Marilyn Monroe meet President Kennedy at a party in the White House, where Monroe was performing. President Kennedy was so impressed by her performance, and told her so. Marilyn was very attracted to the young president, and Kennedy reciprocated the attraction. Thus their relationship started, and initially just a friendship, things progressed at a rapid pace, and their relationship soon developed into an affair. Monroe and Kennedy thought that they were concealing their activities; it was actually common knowledge among White House officials and the Hollywood elite. Now one of the Kennedy's advisors actually pulled him aside and told him that he ought told more discreet with his affair. There was one more final event that proves to be proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Now she went to the President Kennedy's forty-fifth birthday celebration, was held at Madison Square Garden and was broadcast live to home televisions across the nation, Marilyn performed a searing rendition of "Happy Birthday" while wearing a dress that was so tight that she literally had to be sewn into it. At this point President Kennedy, who was deeply embarrassed and angry over Marilyn's performance and his wife refusal to attend the celebration because she "didn't want to be made a fool of, " decided that enough was enough, and cut off all communication between him and the controversial starlet. After she persisted in her attempts to contact him, Kennedy sent his brother Bobby to end the affair and explain to Monroe that her repeated calls were to stop at once. Bobby, however, didn't merely deliver the message and leave. He took advantage of the vulnerability of fragile woman, and started his own affair with her. Well during the course of Bobby's affair with Marilyn, Bobby told Marilyn much information about what he was accomplishing in his role of Attorney General, particularly new concerning his campaign against organized crime, top-secret information about the Cuban Missile Crisis, and details about a government plot to assassinate Fidel Castro. After meeting with Bobby, Marilyn would often go home and write in her diary, a little red book that was one of her most prized possessions, concerning all that she and Bobby had talked about. Marilyn's affair with Bobby was short lived, however, because Bobby felt that his public image as a devoted family man was being threatened every time he had a rendezvous with Marilyn. In order to cut off communication with her, Bobby had the telephone number to his White House Office changed, as well as his home phone number. He then sent a messenger, was over, and to stop trying to contact Bobby. She received no explanation, no goodbye. This second complete cutoff fell heavily on the fragile actress, bringing back the childhood feelings of abandonment and worthlessness that had followed after her father left, as well as memories of what that abandonment had done to her mother..

Strategic guidelines for Market leadershi.Mission Statemen.I'll start by asking what are McCain's distinctive areas of expertise. With over 5 years of food production experience McCain's clearly benefits from not only expertise but also the prestige of a market established branding.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Strategic guidelines for Market leadership

The company as a whole is geographically expanding on the back of strong turnover that topped $5billion, with the UK operation being at the forefront of the frozen food market in terms of consumer awareness thanks to its high profile advertising campaigns. These campaigns have helped foster a market share within the potato speciality market, that has more than increased by 10% in a year.Products like the the'Home Roasts' and, the innovative,'Smiles' have created a good breadth of product line in the potato specialiy market; that is enjoyed by young and old alike.By addressing McCain's areas of experise it becomes clear that the drive for market leadreship in the potato specialities market is significantly enhanced by its market experience and strong branding presence.Yet there is a danger when entering into a strategic plan of this nature of falling into one of two traps.Firstly of falling into what Theodore Levitt termed the'marketing myopia', of too narrowly defining the business; the resulting product and marketing mix will be generally too narrow and too confining for growth. On the otherhand defining business too broadley can result in spreading capital, people and other resources beyond the capabilities of the organization. This danger can be averted by establishing a confident holding of both the companies product driven orientation and its market driven orientation. In order to do this we have to first asses changes, both present and future, in a number of important areas..MARKE.The first of which is the genral state of the potato speciality market. The market has enjoyed 5 years of consecutive volume and value growt hand although last years growth of .5% was the smallest for 4 years (indicating that the market has potentially hit its maturity point) the market volume and value is bouyant.COMPETITIO.With respect to competition the market slow down in growth in the 1-000 period has intensified the competition between key brands looking to consolidate their martket positions. This increased competition for market share could be a signal to look at a number of stratergies like adapting the marketing mix of the potato speciality segment.O.Increasing the broadness of the product range by introducing innovative and new brands. This is not to take away from the important fact that McCain has however flourished as the market has entered its mature stage; and indication that the brand and marketing mix are geared up for this intensified battle for market share.CULTURA.The last decade has seen a maked shift in the socio-cultural emhasis of the consumer.Price and income will continue eo be the main determinents of demand and will reflect the general state of the economy. In practice the trend of real disposible income has been upwards-indicating a better level of living for most. And thus equating to more conveniance appliances like microwaves, bigger freezers which can only enhance the growth of the market.Important changes have occurred in household and family attitudes and patterns of behaviour, that will be important in McCain's efforts to gain market leadership. For example, the average household size is decreasing, with the archetypal .4 children family now only accounting for 5% of the households in the UK (compared with 40% in 180).As a result one person households are increasing steadily, and with it so to is the demand for conveniance food types. This drive for conveniance food is percipitated by what Hughes calls the "single most important demographic feature influencing developments in the food industry", with 80% of all women in the 5-44age group now working outside the home.Because these women are the main determinate as to what food is purchased in most households, they have so much pressure on their avliable time to prepare meals, that they are willing to buy time through the purchase of conveniance food.Healthy nutritional awareness is also one of the most prominent factors now shaping market segmentation. Although these buying impulses are based around the rather bass motives of looking good and slim rather than actually living any longer.Over half of consumers regard themselves as health conscious and this is, therefore, increasingly being reflected in the purchasing of food that they perceive to be nutritionally safe and benefitial. A shift that could be taken advantage of with the increase of lower fat products like the 5% fat free croquets. The general socio cultural shift has seen consumers better educated than ever before and it is often argued that this allows them to make more informed and discerning choices. As a result, there is growing evidence that consumers are looking for new sorts of brand values. The adoption of some of the attitudes of Cause Related Marketing into the marketing mix could certainly harness these changes. For example, this could be seen with a new range of potato-based conveniance meals that project the message that the brand is working for the rushed working mum in trying to and save her time.O.The development of a number of depth products in the form of healtier alternatives to most of the different brands in the potato speciality market. These products would portray the image of McCain as looking after the customer, in seeing him or her through the nutritional pit fulls of a diet.OBJECTIVES AND GOAL.Obviously the primary objective for McCcain is market leadership. Yet, there are a number of goals that will have to be achieved in order to reach this mantle. In terms of quantative objectives, McCain's 5% growth between Aug and Aug00 continued over the next three to five years would comfortably be enough to secure market leadership. This market increase though would have to be at the cost of Birdseye's market share. Because although there has been an increase in market share it has yet to be to the detriment of Birdseye's share of the market. A factor that could point to the need to adopt a frontal marketing campaign against Birdseye's products. In terms of revenue McCain would have to look at increasing the value of its market share from £0.4million in this sector to around £4.14million @ 6% volume share.A number of nonquantative objectives aslo need to be set as a foundation in order to help achieve market leadership.Upgrading distribution channels. Including sales and management training, inventory control systems, expanding into new retailing channels and even contracting independent distributors and resellers to expand distribution and market coverage.Consolidating Segment position. In order to gain market leadership McCcain will not only have to increase its market share but also consolidate the leadership and strong growth positions in its strongest market segments. In, for example, the roast potato and wedges segments objectives should include securing long term sales contracts with key accounts as well as penetrating strategically important geographic territories by adding more sales and service presonel.Importantly the marketing mix can could aslo be adapted to incorporate promotional discounts and offers so at to increase the appeal of the brand to to potential first time buyers and other brand loyal customers.Such objectives would help consolidate market position and bar entry of aggressive competitors.Improving marketing mix. This can be done in conjunction with the managers of finance, sales, manufacturing, R+D and distribution. So they can address whether there is an optimal breadth or depth to the product line up. For eg, in the case of depth whether or not to add new flavours of wedges because of the brands success. Or whether to drop the fritters line cos of their drop in popularity.Building'speciality product' penetratio. This objective can be viewed from both offensive and defensive market positions. The defesive objective would mean guaranteeing that a number of products were produced to imitate or duplicate a rival product of Bidseye's in order shackle its uniqueness. The offensive objective means developing a speciality product dedicated to penetrating a new market segemnt, not held or lightly defended by the other competitors. The new product ideas (both the 5% fat free corquets and the microwave potato nuggets) both appear to address this objective.PLANNING GUIDELINE.There are a number of stratergies that have to addressed when developing growth stratergies lik.1) long term brand or product positionin.) Product, price, promotion and spending mi.)product qualit.Yet all will have to be in line with the overall growth stratergy.Koetler's flank attack theory would be an ideal platform on which to propel McCain into market leadership. This stratergy will not only save money, unlike a head on battle with the main competitors, but is also more in tune with the current market conditions..This is because a the flanking technique identifies new shifts in market segments that as a result leads to a fuller coverage of the markets needs rather than just focusing on increasingly competitive niches. And it is this The increasing variation and diversification that will define the potato speciality market..This flanking growth strategy can be directed along two strategic line.1)The first is a Geographical attack- By looking for and identifying where Birdseye are underperforming and becoming'false market leaders', these areas can be pinpointed for product development.)The segmental tactic is used to highlight the uncovered market needs not being served by the other market leaders. By out innovating the market McCain start off with automatic market leadership. McCain would also gain the certain cache that comes with being the markets leading innovators, for eg Audi.BUSINESS PORTFOLI.McCain are ideally suited to the rigours of a market flanking offensive which I believe would bring with it market leadership..From this table we can see that there is a very strong marketing mix to at the heart of this stratergy for market leadership.Along with relative product quality and bouyant marketing expenditure, Buzzell and Wiernsena found that new product activity was the central reason why companies experienced market share improvements..It is from the development of new products like the 5% fat croquet that the flank attack can be made against competitors like Birdseye, as we explore the increasingly diversifed nature of the potao speciality market..And with the release of the 5% fat free croquet we have the ideal product to spearhead McCain's drive at market leadership..This two prong attack of taking measures to not only consolidate areas of market success whilst taking into account the changes in market segments through the development of innovative new products will be key to McCain's attempts to secure market leadership.I will now move on to the tactical marketing stage of the plan and why I think the 5%fat free croquettes would make the next ideal product to be launched.SITUATION ANALYSI.By looking at the 1) marketing mix ")competitor analysis and )market background this section will attempt to highlight a number of trends in all of these sections which make for ideal conditions in which to release the fat free croquet..Marketing Mix. The results from the quntative tests showed the 5% fat croquettes as performing moderately well. The fact that the definitely buy section saw a 10% drop post trial emphasises the tone that will have to be achieved in the marketing mix if it is to make the most of its potential. Notably that the prodcuthas to be sold on its benefits to the body not just its taste. Although the potato speciality market is still relatively new the market does appear to have reached the early stages of maturity with increased competition just to consolidate market positions. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE DIAGRAM the lack of any other major fat free/healthy eating example in the potato speciality market the croquette would allow an Entirely new segment to develop off of the back of the bouyancy in the potato speciality market..The croquette market currently at % the total potato specialtiy marke, is neither too small to risk not gaining a healthy return and is not saturated with products like the roast potato segment; where one runs the risk of introducing yet another product that could simply be drowned out by the sheer number of alternative products. The main features and benefits for the markt its "healthy" value and as such it will be a unique product in not only the croquette sector but also the potao speciality market as a whole. The fat free croquette would essentially use the success of lower fat oven chips as a spring board to gain consumer recognition. For eg running banners on the oven chip packets like "You've benefited from our lower fat oven chips, why not try our new 5% fat free croquettes.Ultimately this product should be released so as to take advantage of the growing consumer desire to eat more healthly.COMPETITOR ANALYSI.As such one of the main benefits to releasing this product is the fact that no other major competitor is offering a fat free product SEE TABL.And from this table it is important to note that there is no fat free product.Market Backgroun. The 5% fat free croquette would be primarily aimed at the adult market. Although the adult market is 17k T behind the family market, it is not so competitive and is likley to carry on growing due the afore mentioned changes in society. The adult market is enjoying just as strong volume growth and stronger value growth than the family market. A factor that would allow for skim pricing.MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES.I will start this section with Philip Kotler's definition of a market "consisting of all the potential customers sharing a particular need or want who might be willing to and able to engage in exchange to satisfy that need or want".It is the need or want by the consumer for a healthy living and, consequently, eating that will be the driving force behind this the fat free croquettes release. This is a trend that is self perpetuating as the more consumers believe they are eating healthly the less likey thhey will want to be seen as going back to less healthy options. As long as looking slim and good remain the main pre-occupation of most consumers the market cycle will be very long in a high yield value rich adult segment. The introduction of the 5%fat croquette also importantly compliments the the potato speciality portfolio; opening up a new and viable market niche in what has become an increasingly hard fought market. To summise it is always important to ask the question of whether the new offering has a relative advantage over existing competitive offerings, or whether a distinct buyer group exists for which no offering is satisfactory? With no other low fat product to rival it in the potato speciality market and an increasingly health conscious consumer market, the answer to both of these questions is undoubtebly yes. This is why I believe the 5% fat croquette is the most suitable product for release...

Charleys Aunt is a three-act play written by Brandon Thomas. It contains six men and four women parts..Charleys Aunt is about two young college men, Jack Chesney and Charles Wykeham, who are in love with two young girls. Jack is in love with Kitty Verdun, the ward of Stephen Spettigue, and Charley is in love with Spettigues daughter, Amy. The two girls and Mr. Spettigue are planning on leaving for Scotland the next day, so the two find this their last chance to confess their love for the two girls. The only problem is that Charleys Aunt, Donna Lucia DAlvadorez, from Brazil (Where the Nuts Come From º) is coming to visit Charley. Charley has never seen this aunt before, all he knows is that she found him a place to stay when he was orphaned and that she is a Millionaire..Since Charley has told the girls many things that he knows about his Aunt, they use this as a way to draw them to Jacks chambers so that they can be alone to confess their love..

In between this Jacks father, Colonel Sir Francis Chesney, shows up and tells him that they have a financial difficulty and that Jack is going to inherit the family depts. So Jack suggests to his father that he propose to a wealthy woman to help them get of this. Jack then remembers Charleys aunt and proposes that he try and marry Donna Lucia DAlvadorez. But before they arrive, Charley gets a message from his aunt saying that she is going to postpone her visit. This leaves the two gentlemen trying to find a way to get the girls to stay anyway. They soon find Lord Fancourt Babberly, who was just trying to borrow some champagne, to fill the position. It turns out that Lord Fancourt has been lovesick over a girl also. This girl was the daughter of a poor man, sick and dying, which he helped financially by purposely losing repeatedly. He had fallen in love with his daughter but, soon after the father died, a woman soon took charge of her who was on her way from South America to England. And they also come to find that Land Fancourt has taken up theater and has an old woman costume that he was going to use for an amateur play. They soon dress him up as Donna Lucia DAlvadorez and he hysterically tries and manages to be lady-like and not reveal his true gender and identity, leaving Jacks butler, Brasset, laughing his britches off at the incredibly humorous events..Amy and Kitty grow fond of Donna Lucia DAlvadorez (Lord Fancourt), but before Jack and Charley can reveal anything to the two girls, the cranky ol Stephen Spettigue comes in and disturbs the young mens attempts.Kitty and Amy find a chance to reveal their love for the two you men and the men are perfectly excited to here. Now all they need is Spettigues written consent. Luckily Spettigue falls in love with Lord Fancourt (still disguised as Donna Lucia DAlvadorez, mind you º) and the young men and women decide to use this to their advantage.Soon Jacks father appears and proposes to Lord Fancourt (whom is once again still disguised as Donna Lucia DAlvadorez), but is denied, which he is very glad to here because he wasnt to fond of the idea of marrying the old croc.In the meantime, the real Donna Lucia DAlvadorez comes to the college with Ela Delahay, who is also known as the girl who Lord Fancourt had fallen in love with. They soon find out that someone is posing as the wealthy woman, and she decides to pose as someone else so she can be amused with her impersonater. But she soon runs into Coloen Sir Fancis Chesney, who was childhood sweethearts with the millionaire. But, Sir Francis only knows her as Lucy, so he has no idea that she is the real Donna Lucia DAlvadorez. They fall in love again and he invites her to meet the fake Donna Lucia DAlvadorez. All the mentioned characters (except Brasset) gather at the garden table for tea and many laughs are guaranteed with Lord Fancourt. He does pranks, such as pouring tea in Spettigues hat, all the way to Lord Fancourt saying the funniest line in the play, Im from Brazil, where the nuts come from.Spettigue finds it hard to get Lord Fancourt alone, so he invites them all to dinner. It is here that the real Donna Lucia DAlvadorez decides to play mind games with Lord Fancourt. Ela then speaks with the disguised Lord Fancourt alone and reveals to him her love for the Lord Fancourt (still thinking hes just an old lady the two young men found to pose as her auntie). Lord Fancourt finally breaks away from Donna Lucia DAvladorez and Ela, and meets with Spettigue. He writes the letter of his consent, but he will only give it to Lord Fancourt if he (still dressed as Donna Lucia DAlvadoez º) agrees to marry him. Lord Fancourt doesnt plan on staying dressed as Charleys Aunt after that day, so he agrees and receives the letter. All is well until Charley reveals everything to everybody because he feels he cant marry Amy through a lie. It is now that the real Donna Lucia DAlvadorez steps forward and reveals herself as Charleys Aunt. Lord Fancout reveals his true identity also and confesses his love for Ela. And then Sir Francis and Donna Lucia DAlvadorez reveal that they are getting married. Sir Francis was in the impression that she was just a penniless widow, but this was only to see if he really loved her for her, and not her money.Charleys Aunt makes a deal with Jack and Charley that if they promise to do anything like this again that she will give them the letter of written consent. They agree and four couples are soon to be wed.I believe the theme behind this play is basically not to lie, in its simplest form. The theme of do not lie is more complex in this play, because of how many branches it grows out to. Another theme to this story could also be to reveal your love as soon as youre sure of it, instead of waiting until the last minute. It could save you allot of time and cross-dressing º.I truly love this play! Ill admit that I thought it was going to be a boring play set in the 180s, but it turned to much more then I planned it to be! It is funnier than most of the modern day plays I have ever seen! I strongly recommend Charleys Aunt to anyone who is willing to read..

Max sat in the class gazing at Clare Jones. He watched as she leaned over to her friend Julie and passed her a note. Her small school blouse and shorter-than-normal skirt defined her curvaceous body. Julie saw Max watching her friend. She giggled and motioned to Clare to look behind her. Clare turned and looked back at Max. Max was caught out. His elbow slipped on the desk and dislodged his small tin pencil box. It crashed to the floor making a loud noise. The entire class turned and laughed at Max. He felt the heat of a crimson blush as a rush of prickles ran up his back from embarrassment. He glanced back at Clare and Julie who were still looking at him, giggling. A quiet fury surged inside him. He hated it when people laughed at him. It was worse when Clare did though. She seemed to know he liked her. Humiliated, Max slumped in his chair. He lowered his gaze to his desk. Surely no more ridicule would eventuate if he lay low for the rest of the lesson..‘Max Faulkner!' shouted the Legal Studies teacher, Mr. Finch.'Would you stop daydreaming and concentrate! I don't like your attitude young man. I'm trying to inform the class about the Queensland court system and all you can do is stare at your desk? Please pay attention. I'm sure if your attitude does not improve you'll learn more about the courts first hand!' Max could hear muffled laughter around the classroom. The other students were careful not to exacerbate Mr. Finch's aggravation.'Sorry sir.' The class erupted in laughter when Max's voice faltered..He had been keeping quiet in the last few weeks because he knew that he couldn't trust his changing voice. The class struggled to regain composure. Max sank back in his chair and looked straight ahead at the white board. Finch chuckled to himself seemingly pleased at the humiliation he caused Max. As the class settled down a little, Mr. Finch extracted a pile of papers from his briefcase.'I've marked your mid term research essays on the "Constitutional Rights of Australians" and I was generally pleased with the effort. Some of you, however, have let your own opinions get in the way and have been marked down in that respect. If you are unhappy with your marks come and tell me. I'll see if I can help you understand where you went wrong.' Max knew he'd included some of his own opinions in his essay. He hoped that it wouldn't be too obvious. He remembered how Finch didn't like it when people did things differently. Surely he should get a reasonable mark. He put a lot of work into this essay. He needed better marks in Legal Studies so he had done his best to submit a very good paper. He only hoped Finch would recognize his effort and mark it accordingly..Finch walked around distributing the papers amongst the class. Max watched the expression of the students as they discovered what mark Finch had given them. Most showed some degree of disappointment. Finch handed Clare her paper. She immediately turned to Julie to tell her that she got an'A'. Finch tossed Max's paper in front of him.'Yet another unsound piece of work from you Max. I wish you had a better attitude towards this subject.' Max blushed. Again he felt a rush of prickles run up his back. Some of the students looked at him with smirks on their faces. Others had more sympathetic looks. Max read his mark. He felt nauseous when he learned Finch had given him a'D' for his paper. He swallowed hard, managing to contain his disappointment, dejection and anger..

The bell rang for the end of class. There was no time to see Finch about his mark. He knew there was no point in seeing him anyway as it was unlikely the mark would be altered. Max hated Finch for all the humiliation and frustration he caused him. He hoped tomorrow would be better..The following day Mr. Finch was not there to take Legal Studies. The school Principal, Mr. Sampson, took the class instead. He addressed the class.'Mr. Finch is unable to come to school today,' Sampson explained.'He was involved in a brutal hit and run accident last night when walking home from school. He suffered severe head injuries and is currently lying in hospital in a coma. I know his family would appreciate any thoughts and prayers you might have for him in this time of grief.' The class sat in stunned silence. Clare proffered her hand,'Will Mr. Finch be all right Sir?'.‘The doctors can't be sure at this time Clare. It's unlikely he'll be able to teach again if he ever wakes up because he may have sustained brain damage. I don't want you all to dwell on this tragedy too much. I think it'd best you concentrate on your studies because your final year is very important. I'll take you for Legal Studies for the remainder of the year.' Mr. Sampson seemed quite uneasy. He was obviously still coming to terms with the news of Finch's accident. Max noticed there was something else bothering him as he looked out the window - the same window Finch had caught him gazing out many times before. He noticed a police car parked in front of the school office. Mr. Sampson continued,'The police are aware of threats that have been made to Mr. Finch in the past by some of his former students. I'm also aware that his popularity among the student body leaves something to be desired. I pray that his accident was not an attack by a past or present pupil of this school. It's very likely that the police will want to ask some of you questions regarding the incident.' Max was feeling very uncomfortable. It was good news that they had Mr. Sampson for the rest of the year. He liked Mr. Sampson as he was quite friendly to Max. He couldn't remember him ever trying to humiliate him in any way like Finch used to. Max didn't, however, like the fact that the police were around asking questions. If they were looking for students with personal vendettas against Finch, he was a prime suspect. Everyone knew Max hated Finch and they knew how Finch treated Max..‘I understand all of you are stunned and upset to hear of this tragedy. I'm going to let you all go home for the rest of the day.' The class remained silent as it moved out of the classroom. There were quiet discussions between some of the students, still shocked by the news. Max walked to his car. He was one of the few students who drove to school. On many occasions he would give one of his friends a lift home. Not today. He looked at the dints in the fender and the bonnet of his clapped-out, rusty-brown Sigma. He examined a smaller dint closer to the windscreen and noticed a trace of blood that he had failed to hose off last night in the dark. Max smiled and began walking to the door of the car..

Beowulf as a classic epic her.

Is Beowulf from the epic Anglo-Saxon poem, Beowulf an epic hero? In my opinion, he most definitely is. For example, he chooses to fight Grendel, a demonic monster who had killed and devoured hundreds, without weapons, claiming it would be unfair. This displays perhaps what is the most important of epic hero traits, honor. Honor is defined is Principled uprightness of character, personal integrity or A code of integrity, dignity and pride chiefly among men that was maintained is some societies Beowulf clearly demonstrates this as, he did not want Grendel to be disadvantaged.

One essential characteristic of an epic hero is strength of immense proportions and having endurance worthy of the gods. This trait is demonstrated by Beowulf very often. One excellent example would be in his swimming match against Breca, for five days, he raced in the ocean with Breca, always ahead but never wanting to leave his side. When they were finally separated, he single-handedly killed nine sea-demons, and although rapidly losing blood, he made it to shore alive. This is as great an achievement as (whom doing what, where in which book etc...)..

Another characteristic which classifies him as an epic hero is his selflessness. A good example on how Beowulf displays this would be as follows. When one of his people stole an ancient golden flagon, over three hundred years of from a dragon who took his retribution on all the Goats, Beowulf personally went to slay him (with his army, although all but one of them deserted him) although he was old and dying. This selfless act of his proves to be his downfall. (However, with Wigclaf, a prince of the Scylding's, help, he managed to defeat it) Although one could easily argue that this selflessness could easily be pride or rashness as his act would leave his people kingless for a period of time, in my opinion, it is clearly selflessness as if it were only a matter of pride, why would he take his entire army with him. By not doing so would ensure that if he did manage to slay the dragon, No one else would receive glory. Instead he did take his army with him and although all but one of them fled, that thane or warrior, Wigclaf did share the glory.

Thirdly, Beowulf had loyalty. He was fiercely loyal to his king and country. Even though he was powerful and well-liked, he still respected the throne and its ruler. Also, he told Hrothgar that if he died while aiding Hrothgar, that his body should be sent back to his country and that all that was promised to Beowulf would go to Hygelac, showing his respect..

It can take the form of a diary entry or a personal letter. You need to base your ideas around an event or a particular series of events.Feb r.One of the more enjoyable things about being Cook high's school captain is that today I got a day off school to go into Martin Place for'Have a Say Day'. One of the bad things about being school captain and talking at'Have a Say Day' is that I have to share the stage with private school snobs (the sort of kids that think because they're dad is a hotshot lawyer or drives a BMW, that they are better than the rest of the kids in Sydney. I must admit that I think some of the private schoolgirls aren't too bad, but I can't have a conversation with any of them, they take everything so bloody seriously. I had to sit near a few them today at'Have a Say Day'. I started talking to a Presbyterian chick in front of me. She told me how her speech was going to be on university careers, as if she knew everything. I soon lost interest, but it didn't stop her trying to flirt with me, I couldn't believe it. I seriously think that some of these private rich chicks just can't help themselves whenever there's a bloke around.

The only chick that really left an impression on me was the St. Martha's vice captain who sat next to me, she was pretty foxy once she took her glasses off. I recognised her from a few years back when me and a few mates egged some rich college chicks on the last day of school. I asked her if she remembered the incident, she did. I found it hilarious, but she wasn't very impressed, I don't think she found the humour in it all. I tried to lighten her up a little by telling her that my speech would be a demonstration of how to correctly put on a condom. I don't think that impressed her either, she was more horrified than humored. Her speech wasn't too bad actually, for a good Catholic schoolgirl. She talked about sex education in schools and how AIDS is going to be a big problem if schools don't start talking about how to stop it. I was pretty impressed. It's not the kind of speech you expect from someone from St Martha's or St Martyrs as it is better known at Cook High. So I couldn't help myself and had to lead her on a bit with the condom joke and she fell for it too! It was almost as good as the day I smeared egg on her glasses back in Year 10.My speech actually ran quite smoothly, especially considering the fact that I didn't even know I would be talking until one hour beforehand. However I'm not sure whether or not the entire crowd appreciated me calling our premier a dickhead as much as my mates from Cook High did. Most of the other debaters congratulated me on my speech, not that I really care what they think. I was pleased to know that I had impressed the St. Martha's chick though. I might even possibly make an appearance at the regional school dance this year after all..
